Taylor Swift's Outsiders

Hurn's relentless curiosity and drive to engage with the zeitgeist hasn't waned with his years of experience. In 2024, following a conversation with students at the University of South Wales, he turned his lens on the phenomenon of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, photographing and chatting with fans as they waited for their turn to see the show. He was even gifted a number of the iconic beaded bracelets commonly traded between Swift's fans, his favourite simply reads 'Swiftie'.

I read a remarkable statistic - as of 2024, Taylor Swift won 14 Grammys, 40 AMAs, 39 Billboard Music Awards, and 23 VMAs. Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour is the first music event to surpass $1 billion in revenue, making it the highest-grossing tour in history.

I love ideas of events likely to be of interest in fifty years time. Taylor Swift? and she comes to Cardiff.

Now I know little about the lady except for the above. How could I indulge myself? As often, I resort to examining the fans. I invent a good title - ‘Taylor Swifts Outsiders’ (i.e) those outside the venue pre concert (I had no desire to actually battle inside the stadium). But I could, if I didn’t wobble too much, photograph the peripheries.
